German Cinnamon Cookies Recipe

Zimtmakronen



Enjoy these cinnamon cookies, known as Zimtmakronen in Germany, thoughout Advent.

Bake these German cookies and present them to your family and friends.

My recipe will make about 65 cinnamon macaroons.

Ingredients

250g ground hazelnuts
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp vanilla flavouring (granulated if possible)
4 egg whites
pinch of salt
1 tsp lemon juice
250g caster sugar
approx 65 hazelnuts

Mix together the ground nuts, cinnamon and vanilla flavouring. Beat the egg whites with the lemon juice and salt until stiff. Gradually fold in the sugar to the beaten egg white mixture. Lastly fold in the nut mixture.

Using two small spoons, place small macaroon mounds onto a lined baking sheet.

Top each macaroon with a hazelnut and bake in a preheated oven at 160 degrees C for about 20-25 mins. Leave to cool and then enjoy your christmas cookies with friends and family.
