We all know that potatoes are healthy and there are many German potato recipes. Here I have listed my favourite German recipes . You can cook potatoes in a variety of ways, roast-em, mash-em, fry-em, boil-em or eat them in their jacket.
Potatoes are low in fat and a great source of fibre. They are very nutritious and packed with vitamins such as vitamin C and B1 and potassium. Potatoes are a great food for children and the whole family to enjoy. Make sure you store them properly though:
A cool, dark place is best.
Make sure it's well-ventilated to avoid any greening.
Remove potatoes from plastic bags.
Don't store in the fridge or next to any strong-smelling foods.
The Germans are big fans of potatoes, especially the fried kind (Bratkartoffeln). Or just plain boiled (Salzkartoffeln). My children are particularly fond of mashed potatoes (Kartoffelpuree) and for a change we add different ingredients such as carrots, garlic or herbs.
