Hazelnut with candied cherry center christmas cookie

When I was in Germany over Christmas two years ago I got the chance to make Christmas cookies at the end of November with a family. I no longer have contact with them and have been wanting to make these cookies we made together. I know they had hazelnut powder and I believe also almond powder. Then when we shaped them you made them into a ball and then pushed a candied cherry into the center. They were delightful! If anyone could help with the name or how to make them, or just in general what kind they might have been I would be very grateful! Thank you!
