Cooked Cabbage Recipes

German Cabbage

One of my easy cabbage recipes is one for Bayrisch Kraut (Bavarian cabbage). Delicious served with Schweinebraten and Knoedel.

Bayrisch Kraut

You will need:

1 medium sized cabbage (about 750g in weight)
3-4 dessert spoons oil
1 tsp sugar
half litre broth
salt and caraway seeds

Make sure that the cabbage is not too green!

Cut into 4 quarters and remove the middle core. Wash in salt water and cut into rough slices (about 3cm thick).

Heat the oil in a pan until slightly browned, then add the sugar and lastly the cabbage. Stir and then add the broth. Season with salt and caraway seeds, put a lid on the pan and simmer for 40-50 minutes.

Take care to ensure that the cabbage is not overcooked!

Serve with your favourite German recipe.
