German Kraeuterbutter Recipe - Herb Butter Recipe

Hello: I miss Kraeuterbutter so very much!

I had a recipe a German friend gave me that had herb suggestions, what to put together for taste.
She also had measurements to use with 1 pound of butter.

Would you have such a recipe?

Thank you!

5-8 garlic cloves
3 tablespoons olive oil
black pepper
500g Butter
1/2 bunch parsley
1/2 bunch tarragon
Dill
sea salt

Peel the cloves of garlic, cut in half. Place on aluminium foil with the olive oil (make a closed packet out the foil) and bake in the oven at 175 degrees C for an hour.

You can also press the garlic cloves and mix with the olive oil.

Place the butter in a pan or microwave to soften so that you are able to stir it.

Finely chop the herbs, add to the butter and garlic and mix well. Season with salt and pepper.

Place the mixture in the fridge to harden. The butter will keep will in a closed container for a few weeks in the fridge.

Great with steaks, sausages and barbecued meats.

Annies

Best schnitzel ever. She refused to give out the recipe and no one could duplicate it.

It also took a long time to make.

Spang in the late 80s.

YUM YUM

I lived in Germany for 5yrs. back in the 80's. Krauterbutter is fantastic, so were many other herbed dressings that were used.
You've got to try this, you'll never go back.

Krauterbutter and pommes frites
by: Anonymous

First had krauterbutter in '71 at a little place in Bad Windsheim called 'Ullrich's Bierstube' - along with 'pommes frites' Have never seen either since I got back to the states in '74. Thanx for the help...I think just about every vet that spent time in Germany misses the great food - including the two items I mention...never saw butter used on either steak or 'fries' before!!! Any recipes for Pommes Frites???

500.g Butter = how much butter?
by: Anonymous

Had this while in Germany years ago and loved it. Wondering how much 500g butter is, and how much dill to use. Thank you so much for posting this recipe.

500g Butter = How Much Butter?
by: Anonymous

We had this when in Germany years ago, and loved it. We came home craving it, but could never quite duplicate it. I would love to make it, but am not sure how to convert the 500g butter. I would have thought it would be one pound of butter, but I looked it up and it said one lb. of butter= 454g. Just wanted to be sure of the amount of butter to use. Also, how much dill? Can't wait to make this, and will make plenty of it! Thank you for sharing.SAFARI

I miss Germany
by: SGO Writer

Grew up in Frankfurt in the late '60s and early 70s. We lived right off Miquel Adickesalle near the Topper Club, PX, Commissary, Stars&Stripes Bookstore and Creighton Abrams. Love this recipe. Don't be afraid to add to it either in quantity of herbs or additions. i.e. I add lots of chopped chives and sage. I usually make two big batches, one with lemon juice added to taste. When it's still soft I put the krautebutter in little containers like you get for salad dressing at salad bars and put them in freezer. Keep one container of each (lemon and nonlemon) in fridge at all times for use in cooking. In addition to knob of butter on steaks, chops, etc. a knob of the lemon kruatebutter goes great with grilled or baked fish.

Amazing recipe
by: Jill

We lived in Germany from 1987-1990 while my husband was stationed at Rhein Mein Air Base. Our favorite restaurant was The Corner Steakhouse in Raunheim. It was there that I first had Kraeuterbutter. I have been trying to find the recipe for YEARS! This recipe is the closest I have found! We absolutely live it! And if any of your are ever in Raunheim, check out the restaurant. It is an amazing experience!

Herb butter
by: Denise in Mobile

Just watched a cooking segment on the Today show; the chef made a herb butter to go on top of a grilled steak. Took me back 30 years, to my 5 year stay in Germany at Ramstein air base. Yes, loved the food, wine, beer and people of Germany. Recently purchased a commercially made herb butter, no where close to kraeuterbutter that I remember. Thanks for posting your recipe.

German culture brought home

So it seems many of us enjoyed rumpsteak mit kraeuterbutter while stationed in Germany. Certainly the food is one thing I sure miss. My three years spent in Giebelstadt was awesome and this is one of the items I miss most. Thanks for sharing.
