anise thin cookies

When I was 4 or 5 years old we had a German neighbor and she made a very thin, anise, dark colored cookie which she always rolled and cut with a playing card club cutter. I have not been able to find a similar recipe. I am of German heritage but have never seen this type of cookie except from our neighbor.
