German Tomato Salad Recipe

Enjoy my light tomato salad recipe. I tend to make this salad a lot in summer when tomatoes are at their peak. Enjoy my easy summer salad with your favourite German recipe or at a barbecu. This tomato salad is also perfect for picnics or on your summer buffet table.

This recipe is very quick and easy to make and is great for using up a glut of fresh tomatoes from your garden.

Tomatoes, olive oil and vinegar, especially red wine vinegar, seem to complement tomatoes perfectly. You could also use basil instead of parsley, whichever you prefer.

The pinch of sugar is optional.

German Tomatensalat

500g tomatoes
1 red or white onion, cubed
1 dessert spoon parsley
1 dessert spoon basil
1 dessert spoon red wine vinegar
pinch sugar
3 dessert spoons oil

Wash the tomatoes in lukewarm water and remove the thick stem. Slice the tomatoes thickly or quarter them and place in a deep dish.

Add the chopped onion and finely chopped parsley and basil. Mix the red wine vinegar with the sugar and oil and pour over the salad. Leave to rest for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Try using different shaped tomatoes. Use sliced tomatoes and halved cherry and grape tomatoes or yellow tomatoes for a different look.
