German Apple Pancake Recipe

Now is the time to make my German apple pancake recipe. Being fall, apples are in abundance. What better way to use them up than to make this delicious German pancake. My recipe uses oats so it is healthy too!

Ingredients

100g flour
4 eggs
400ml milk
100g oats
1/2 teaspoon salt
600g apples
2 dessert spoons lemon juice
fat for frying
30g icing or powdered sugar

Sift the flour into a bowl. Make a well in the centre and then beat in the eggs. Alternately add the milk and oats and beat well to remove any lumps. Add the salt and leave for 10 mins.

Meanwhile, wash and peel the apples and slice. Spinkle with lemon juice to stop browning.

In a pan, heat some fat or oil. I normally use a 26cm pan. Place a quarter of the apples into the pan and then spoon over a quarter of the batter mixture. Place a lid on the pan and cook over a medium heat for about 5 minutes. Carefully turn the pancake over and cook for 3 minutes on the other side.

Make the remaining pancakes and then sprinkle with powdered sugar to serve. Enjoy my apple German pancake recipe with fruit compote if liked.

If liked, using the same batter recipe, you can add grated carrot, courgette or peas. Once turned, sprinkle over grated cheese and cook. Now you have delicious savoury pancakes.
