German Christmas Dessert Recipes

Baked Apple (Bratapfel)
with a Walnut Filling

Delicious German Christmas dessert recipes. There are many, but when it is cold outside, baked apples (Bratapfel) with a walnut filling taste especially good.

Make sure that you use an aromatic apple type such as Boscop or Braeburn for this tasty German dessert.

Ingredients

4 medium sized apples
30g chopped walnuts
25g raisins soaked in rum
2 dessert spoons apple jelly
1 dessert spoon honey
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 dessert spoon butter

Wash the apples and remove the core. Place the apples in a greased oven proof dish. Mix together the walnuts, raisins, apple jelly, honey and cinnamon and fill the apple centres. Place flakes of butter over the apples.

Bake in a preheated oven at 200g C for about 30 minutes. They should be soft when cooked. If not eaten immediately, cover with aluminium foil. Delicous when served with warm vanilla sauce.
